these are the few things about the 'Hindu' - the first and the oldest religion on the planet.
It is not only a religion but also no doubt the oldest civilization on the planet. According to the 'Merutantra',
'Heenancha dushaytyeva Hindurityuchyate' i.e. those who gives punishment to the sinner are called as Hindu.
According to geological and archeological explorations it is found out that due to the Sindhu river (Indus), the whole region of that part was also become to known 'as Hindu' and the inhabitants living there were come to be known as Sandhavas.
According to the rules of the linguistics, it was natural for any word to change its form according to the region.
The sindhu region was an important trade route of that time, so when the Zoroastrian philosophy was spread into the Parsia they began to called this place as Hindu, (S = H),and who went for the trading purpose and for the common-man whosoever was living into the hindu region and far beyond it was also come to known as hindu.
But it does not have any matter to do with the Aryan or hindu religious or philosophical thoughts. Because whatever the names may be, it doesn't corrupt or spoils the real thinking of it.
As all know that the people who lives in the region of Bharatkhandaare known as hindus. This even includes the non-hindu varities such as muslims or christians etc.
Now as we discuss about the termology "hindu", so this word aside of any Sanskrit literature only appears in the ancient "Merutantra" :-
'पश्चिमाम्नाय मंत्रास्तुप्रोक्ता पारस्य भाशया ,
अश्तोत्तर शताशीतिर्येशाम संसाधनात्कलौ
